Hello

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I have attended events and wanted to join in 2005 and finally pushed through. I recently release my first book of poetry called Through the Fire. I self published it through Author House Publishing. It has been a challenge getting it out there into everyone's hand. I am on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Trying to get into the retail stores as well.

I recently sent 500 press releases out and the waiting period is quiet so now I am in the process of following up.

What one piece of advice can you give me?

Thanks

Patricia

Hello Ms. Saunders, I would also encourage you to take advantage of vendor events, in your area, as well as reaching out to the many blog talk hosts. Another idea would be to create your own event which will showcase your book. Good luck with your book sales and keep pushing!

    Hi Patricia! Welcome to NABFEME!

For starters ... I'd treat your book just like an artist releasing a new record... nobody really cares about the release but you!

I don't say that to be harsh, but to get your mind into a marketing mode of thinking! Being on Amazon and B&N is great, but isn't Zane, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Alice Walker and other great authors there too? Believe it or not, they represent your competition and the challenge becomes how do you distance your book from theirs and stand out so that the consumer picks up your book instead of one of theirs.

You have to work your book Patricia! The 500 Press Releases you sent maybe sitting in someone's in-box unopened or in a Spam folder. Focus on an area within a 200 mile radius of where you live. Easy to drive to and get back home from. Colleges, social events, lifestyle events, community events, church events... anywhere potential readers and consumers for your book might be. You gotta hit 'em! You gotta take your product to the market! I know its a lot easier to upload the book to Amazon and send out those Press Releases with the click of a mouse, but the difference in sales when you actually work it with your market is astounding.

We have scheduled a "Literary Lounge" in Ft. Lauderdale with Zane and some other authors on Oct 5th (let me double check that date) as a part of a Women Who Jam event we are doing. I know that's a long way from where you live, however, these are they type of things you have to get involved in. You have got to take the product to the consumer... you can't wait on them to come running to you!

Let's talk more... Feel free to call me anytime
