High Heels in High Places® was created to honor and celebrate women of exceptional achievement. The program highlights dynamic women whose careers have redefined the roles of women in the workplace, particularly in music, business, and ministry. Presented each year during Black Music Month by Memphis community radio station WYXR, The DOWD Awards celebrate Black creatives and community leaders whose legacies inspire across generations. From airwaves to classrooms, bandstands to boardrooms, these remarkable Memphians have shaped the soul of the city through music, mentorship, and community service.
